Another Solfest Over and Done With

  • Aug. 20th, 2007 at 9:11 AM

Solfest finished up yesterday. Didn't have much time to get too excited about it this year because we were all so busy thinking about other things that it really did sneak up on us.

Unlike in prior years, I didn't teach any workshops. Josh Tickell taught the biodiesel one. And unlike last year, I wasn't on the Alternative Fuels Smackdown panel- it was supposed to be Josh, but he canceled so they asked Lindsay Hassett, a.k.a. Betty Biodiesel, who came to me for advice on what to say on-stage.

I felt kind of glum about those things- I had been asked to teach a workshop months ago, and appreciatively said that I would, and that I'd await the promised e-mail with more info. I never got one. Then, a couple days before Solfest, I was called and asked to teach an unscheduled workshop. At that point, such late notice, without any word of what I would be doing on the official schedule, it just didn't feel right, so I didn't do it. Then, to not even be the backup plan when Josh backed out on the panel- that felt pretty bad. I really do ache to teach people all this junk that's clogging up my brain. I'm local, and I can do it better than the celebrities that are brought in and, in some cases, paid for their appearances. I love the Solar Living Institute, but it was hard to take.

I will say this- the paint job they put on our biodiesel tank prior to the event looks great. Now we need to coat it in polyurethane, clean up the metal "floor", and install a better hose and a breakaway.

Saturday was the most sparsely populated Solfest day I've ever attended. Sunday was a lot better. Probably some new customers, maybe a new investor or two. My cousin Free showed up and we hung out a lot. Our booth looked great- I must apologize for not taking pictures.

More on some of the weekend goings-on later.
